Poker For Beginners: Taking Notes

When you start playing internet poker, a good habit to get into is to take notes. Take some time to find out what data is important to you, and begin to log it consistently. Here are some suggestions:

Opponents: Probably the most important notes you will take are those that are about the players you are up against day after day. Don’t rely on your memory to recall if someone is a tight player, very aggressive, or just an overall fish. Come up with a rating system and update if the player shows different trends.

Profit / Loss. This is the hardest to do honestly, but you really should know if you are a profitable player or if you are in the red. Most people who track their results over the long run are surprised at the actual number.

Goal Setting: As with everything else, it is important to set your goals in regards to poker. Are you looking to play in the WSOP within a year? Do you want to make a comfortable side income? Do you want to play once a week recreationally? Write it down and don’t forget to change it when and if your personal goals change.
